The unfolding of 2025 has been disheartening to say the least. Sending so much love to everyone who is grieving any amount of loss and feeling dysregulated navigating this moment and life overall.
It can feel like tragedy is happening “to” us. However, we each have a very important role to play.
We must continue to dream and shine our lights in this time of darkness. It is the most important time to unabashedly run towards our desires, determined and unapologetic.
Because spoiler: the men in charge politically, financially and influentially are doing this and it’s working. And they want us to believe that their vision for our future is the only possibility. But it’s not.
So, what do you want?
Close your eyes and take three breaths, imagining your physical heart expanding and contracting with each breath.
What does your heart and soul want? For yourself and for the collective?
Some examples may be: a values-aligned partner, a career that pairs your passions with your purpose, an end to putting profits above people, a future where we prioritize livable wages, health care and safety.
It helps to be specific and explore what your dreams would look like in reality.
Check in with yourself to ensure your dreams are a product of your desires, or if they are coming from something outside of you such as family pressure, societal expectations or scarcity and fear.
Once you know what you want, say it out loud.
I’ll wait.
How did that feel? Do you believe that your dreams are possible?
This part is really important. You have to believe it. Every opportunity seized, relationship formed or material item acquired you first believed it was possible.
What story do you tell yourself when you imagine your dreams coming true? It may sound like “I can’t have it because…”, “It won’t happen because…” or something similar. Anything that comes after the “because” is a story you are telling yourself.
Locate the story and rewrite it. Identify someone who has accomplished what you want to believe that it is possible. Search for evidence that the opposite is true to shatter this story. Use your values to challenge this limiting belief and respond to the story as your authentic self.
Transform this story into a new one that allows you to honor your dreams. Recite it like a prayer everyday until you believe it. I like to do this silently to myself on walks, in the shower, when I cook or as I fall asleep.
Next, take action. What steps do you need to take to accomplish your dreams? Maybe some immediately come to mind. Great, write those down. Perhaps others will arrive to you in moments of flow or stillness, when your mind is clear and inspiration strikes.
Keep taking action. Tell others what you are doing. Ask for support and accountability. Do things that are on the edges of your comfort zone.
Observe what begins to shift in your life. Give thanks when you move closer to your dreams. And keep dreaming until your dreams become your reality.
Amidst all of this, take care of yourself and others on the way to your dreams. Feel and experience your emotions rather than stew in them. Check in on your friends and family and see how they’re doing. Give any excess resources to those in our community who lack hope and connection.
We move through moments of darkness by being the light. One person sees your hope and their light sparks. And so on. Please keep shining. Your dreams inspire others.
