I find myself desiring time to rest and recharge. More space to think and be curious. More presence to cherish and be in awe of my surroundings.
Maybe you crave this too, but the potential of an end of year breakthrough is nagging at your desire for stillness. You feel like you still need to be “on” so you don’t waste any precious time.
Here’s the thing. Slowing down makes space for all the insights and breakthroughs you are efforting towards, but with less effort.
Not sure how that can be? Here’s a recent example.
My partner was looking for medicine he had bought months ago and was certain it was somewhere inside our home.
I absolutely hate losing things. So I frantically helped him search in all the probable places – the bathroom cabinet, closet, the bedside table. It was nowhere to be found.
Thirty minutes later we stopped looking, deciding we would resume our search efforts later. My partner left the house, and I sat at my desk disturbed by the fact that there was a missing item under my roof.
I took a few deep breaths and got curious about what I was feeling. With this stillness I acknowledged the emotion that was present: frustration. I instantly felt lighter just by naming what I was feeling. I sat a little longer in this frustration and let it move through me.
And once I fully experienced frustration, I instantly remembered where the damn medicine was!
The stillness brought clarity, and in this example, a certified breakthrough for me so I could go on with my day in peace.
Slowing down and being present can be the medicine (or help us find the medicine) we need in the moment. Oh look, I stumbled upon a fitting metaphor 😂.
I’m going to bring this mindset into the rest of my year by:
Making a daily practice of cherishing the little things that make me feel joy, awe and fully alive (and writing them down at the end of the day to remind myself).
Taking alone time during family gatherings to check in with myself and see what I need.
Saying no to events and opportunities that require more energy than I am willing to give.
Waiting until the new year to begin a *new* coaching experience for helpers who want to align their year with their heart's desire.
How can you slow down to find your own breakthrough? With curiosity, reflect on the following questions and witness what answers arrive.
Decide for yourself, how do you want to spend the rest of the year? Still? Active? Something else?
How will you honor this intention? When you're home, when you’re traveling, when you’re feeling strong emotions?
Who can you share this intention with to help you stay accountable and feel supported?
And if you’re wondering, the medicine was found inside a travel bag in the bathroom cabinet 🤦🏻♀️.
