I almost forgot that this is the whole point

There’s an internet trend going around where people are posting videos with serene images of nature and the words “I almost forgot that this is the whole point”. Lately, I find myself thinking about this message when I’m experiencing the stress of our current times.


I took a vacation earlier this month and I could literally feel my parasympathetic nervous system turn on, responsible for relaxation and recovery, and my worries fade away.

We rented a cabin on the river in northern Arkansas where my fiancé grew up. With our dog in tow, our only plans were to relax for a long weekend. No agenda, no expectations, just to be together and unwind.


It was such a great reminder of what “the whole point” is. For me, that means being in community with people who care for and love me, feeling safe and being present. Life can feel so fast and important that I forget I don’t need permission or a reason to slow down and live in the current moment.

Admittedly, we hadn’t gotten away and taken time like this together in over two years. Between renovating our dream home, raising a puppy, me growing my business and him recording his new album, we just didn’t make the time. But wow, were we happy that we finally did. It was the reset we needed to give us a new perspective on what we are working towards and why.


Since we got back, I’ve been exploring how to experience this same level of peace and relaxation at home. Some things I’ve tried so far: riding my bike in nature, embracing childlike play like jumping on a trampoline and creating an outlet for my creativity by launching a new Etsy store.


What stands out in these moments is that I am not forcing, trying to change anything (or anyone) or living in the past or future. I’m present, safe and cared for. When these things are true, I am in alignment with my authentic self. In my opinion, this is “the whole point”.
