Personal Values Assessment: Discover What Matters with our Core Values FRAMEWORK

When life feels like a maze and you’re standing at a crossroads wondering which way to turn, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. I’ve been there too. What finally brought me clarity was something simple yet profound: understanding my core values.

Your core values are the guiding principles that shape who you are and what truly matters to you. In this post, I’ll walk you through a gentle, encouraging framework for discovering your core values; a journey that can help you reconnect with your inner wisdom and live more authentically.

Why A Core Values FRAMEWORK MatterS

Sometimes we make choices that seem right in the moment but later leave us feeling uneasy. Often, that discomfort comes from acting out of alignment with our core values.

Core values are like a compass: they point you toward what feels meaningful and fulfilling. When you honor them, life tends to flow with more ease, clarity, and purpose.

Our core values analysis helps you:

  • Identify what truly matters to you

  • Make decisions that feel authentic and grounded

  • Build stronger relationships based on shared values

  • Navigate life’s challenges with more confidence and resilience

For example, if you deeply value honesty, it may feel draining or uncomfortable to stay in situations where openness and transparency are missing. Recognizing this allows you to seek environments that honor your truth.

How to Begin Your Core Values DISCOVERY

You don’t need any special tools to begin, just a bit of quiet and a willingness to explore. Here’s a simple framework to guide you (You can download our workbook for a more in-depth, step-by-step process):

  1. Reflect on Peak Moments: Think about times when you felt fully alive. Moments where you were truly happy, proud, or fulfilled. What was happening? Who were you with? What values were being honored in those moments?

  2. Consider Your Role Models: Who do you admire? What qualities do they embody? Often, the traits we respect in others mirror the values we hold ourselves. But be mindful, and ask yourself if these traits are important to you (not others) and something you are choosing out of a desire to be your best self, and not based on fear or societal norms.

  3. List Your Values: Write down words or phrases that resonate with you; things like kindness, freedom, creativity, or family. Your values can also be phrases like "quality time with chosen family". Don’t analyze too much at this stage; let your intuition lead.

  4. Define Your Values: Create your own, personal definitions for each value, ones that feel true to you and can’t just be found on Google. These definitions should serve as a practical guide for how you choose to live in alignment with your values every day.

  5. Prioritize Your List: Look over your list and narrow it down to your top 5–7 values. These are likely your core, non-negotiable values.

  6. Test Your Values: Ask yourself: Does this value influence my daily choices? Does it energize or inspire me? If not, it may be more of a “nice-to-have” than a core value.

This process is deeply personal, and there’s no right or wrong answer. It’s about discovering what is true to you so you can live a life of alignment and authenticity.

Exploring Your Core Values Through Everyday Life

Once you’ve identified your core values, the next step is to notice how they show up in your daily life. This is where awareness turns into alignment.

  • Look at Your Routine: Does your daily schedule reflect what you say you value? If you value health, for example, are you making time for movement, rest, and nourishing food?

  • Evaluate Your Relationships: Do the people around you support and respect your values? If growth is important to you, do your relationships encourage learning, curiosity, and new experiences?

  • Assess Your Work: Does your job or business honor your values? If creativity matters, do you have meaningful chances to express it? If service is a core value, do you feel you’re making a positive impact?

If you notice gaps between your values and your reality, there’s no need for judgment. Awareness is simply the first step toward change.

Practical Steps to Live Your Values Every Day

Living in alignment with your core values is an ongoing practice. Here are some practical ways to bring your values to life:

  • Set Intentions: Each morning, briefly review your core values. Choose one to focus on and set a simple intention: “Today, I will honor connection by being fully present in my conversations.”

  • Make Value-Based Decisions: When you’re facing a decision, ask: Which option best aligns with my values? This question can bring surprising clarity, even in complex situations.

  • Create Boundaries: Protect your time, energy, and attention by saying no to commitments that conflict with your values. Boundaries are a way of honoring what matters most. Keep in mind that "No, thank you" is a complete sentence.

  • Celebrate Small Wins: Notice the moments when you do act in alignment with your values, no matter how small. Acknowledge them. This builds confidence and reinforces those patterns.

  • Seek Support: Surround yourself with people who respect, share, or at a minimum understand your values. Their support can help you stay grounded and true to yourself, especially when life feels challenging.

And remember: your values can evolve. As you grow and your life circumstances change, it’s natural to revisit and refine them.

Embracing Your Authentic Path

Discovering your core values is a powerful step toward living a life that feels fulfilling and aligned. It’s about choosing, day by day, to live in harmony with your truth.

As you move forward, be gentle with yourself. There will be moments of clarity and moments of confusion, times when you feel on track and times when you don’t. All of it is part of the journey.

Take a moment now to ask yourself: What value do I most want to honor today? What is one small action I can take that reflects that value?

Your path is uniquely yours, and your values are the quiet, steady signals guiding you home to yourself.

Thank you for being willing to explore core values. May this process support you in creating a life of greater clarity, purpose, and alignment.
